Spud Longrigg and his elegiac melancholy...

 

For better, for worse, we shall not look upon their like again...

 

Modern education, with its grim objective professionalism,

could never reproduce those days -

 

So I will try to represent things as they were

(or seemed to me)

In those days of childhood

In that more jubilant and exuberant age.
